Yamaha NMAX vs Aerox rental in Pattaya
Two Yamaha step-up scooters that compete for the same rental slot — compared for the hire decision, not as a road test. The shop still matters more than the badge.

Yamaha Thailand’s 2026 references put both scooters at 155 cc and only one kilogram apart in standard/SP form. The measurable differences are elsewhere: the NMAX reference has a 20 mm lower seat, 1.6 L more fuel capacity and 13-inch wheels; the Aerox SP has 14-inch wheels. Check the exact rental’s year, trim, fit and condition before choosing.
Because both names appear in several model years and variants, this page does not turn catalogue figures into a handling verdict. It uses two current Thai-market reference pages to identify questions a renter can verify at pickup. An older fleet scooter may differ.
Same engine class, different measurable layout
Yamaha Thailand’s 2026 specification pages, checked on 23 August 2026, publish these figures for the standard NMAX and Aerox SP:
- Engine displacement: both 155 cc.
- Seat height: NMAX 770 mm; Aerox SP 790 mm.
- Published wet weight: NMAX 131 kg; Aerox SP 130 kg.
- Fuel capacity: NMAX 7.1 L; Aerox SP 5.5 L.
- Wheel size: NMAX 13-inch front and rear; Aerox SP 14-inch front and rear.
- Overall footprint: NMAX 1,935 mm long and 740 mm wide; Aerox SP 1,980 mm long and 710 mm wide.

Why weight alone does not choose the rental
A one-kilogram catalogue gap is too small to support a claim that one scooter is inherently easier to manage. Seat width, centre of mass, fuel load, accessories, tyre condition and rider reach influence the stationary experience. Sit on each available unit with the stand up only where staff permit, turn the bars, reach the controls and check whether you can support it securely.
The footprint figures can help with a practical question: the reference Aerox is 45 mm longer but 30 mm narrower, while the NMAX reference has the lower seat. They do not tell you which will filter, corner or brake better in real traffic.
Passenger use must be checked on the actual unit
Both reference scooters include passenger provisions, but the cited sources do not measure two-up comfort or establish comparable storage volumes. Ask both people to try the parked seating position, verify the scooter’s load guidance, confirm that the contract permits the intended rider and passenger, and make sure each person has an approved helmet that fits. Do not assume either model stores two helmets.
What one current operator page shows
Best Motors’ operator-owned scooter page, checked on 23 August 2026, listed the NMAX in its comfort-class table but did not list an Aerox in that table. The table labelled its figures as low-season rates. This is a dated snapshot from one provider, not a citywide inventory or proof of which model is easier to find.
It also cannot support the common claim that an Aerox is cheaper than an NMAX. A defensible comparison needs both models, the same provider, dates, inclusions, deposit and liability terms. Request those in writing; if a provider cannot quote both, compare the complete rentals rather than inventing a model premium.
Use a five-step tie-breaker
1. Fit: start with the lower NMAX reference seat if reach is a concern, but test both exact rentals.
2. Carrying needs: place the actual helmet or bag in the compartment; this source check does not establish a storage winner.
3. Condition: inspect tyres, brakes, lights, steering, controls, mirrors and recorded damage. Reject a poor unit regardless of model.
4. Terms: compare total price, deposit, named riders, mileage, breakdown support, damage liability and return process.

The licence is the same for both
Choosing between two 155 cc Yamaha references does not change the document question: both are motorcycles. Confirm the applicable Thai, qualifying ASEAN or foreign-licence route before riding, and make sure the base licence itself carries the motorcycle category; an International Driving Permit cannot add a missing entitlement. Keep a same-brand comparison clean
Do not mix trims between the quote and specification
Place the written variant and year beside the registration for each scooter. If the shop changes the offered unit, restart that identity check before carrying over a seat-height, tank or wheel figure. Yamaha’s standard and SP references describe named versions; they do not describe every NMAX or Aerox already in a Pattaya fleet.
Ask for one quote format
For each Yamaha, record the same rental dates, total, security arrangement, included distance, named riders, delivery or collection charge, breakdown process and damage and theft terms. A quote that includes one item and omits it for the other cannot support a model-price conclusion. Keep the original passport and retain the agreed payment and return record.
Make the pickup file identifiable
Begin each walk-around with the registration plate and model identifier, then record tyres, brakes, lights, steering, controls, mirrors and existing marks. This prevents the NMAX images and Aerox images from becoming an undifferentiated camera roll. The record may help assess a later condition allegation but does not guarantee a claim outcome.
