Honda Click vs Yamaha NMAX: which to rent

The two scooters Pattaya shops offer most often, compared honestly — and the thing that matters more than either.

In short

The Honda Click and Yamaha NMAX are the two scooters you will be offered most often in Pattaya. The Click is smaller, lighter and cheaper; the NMAX is larger, steadier and better suited to two-up riding and longer trips. Both need a motorcycle licence — and on both, the shop and the bike’s condition matter more than the badge.

The short answer

Choose a Honda Click if you want the lightest, cheapest bike for solo trips around the city. Choose a Yamaha NMAX if you want a larger, steadier machine for riding two-up or travelling further.

Both are twist-and-go automatics, so neither needs gear changes. The difference is size, weight and cost.

Size and who each suits

The Click is a 125cc automatic — light, compact and easy to manage, which makes it a common first rental and a good fit for solo city use. The NMAX is a larger 155cc automatic with more weight and presence, which suits riders carrying a passenger or heading beyond the city.

A heavier bike feels more planted at speed but more of a handful at walking pace, so the NMAX rewards a little riding confidence.

Cost

The Click is the cheaper of the two to rent, sitting at the lower end of scooter rates; the NMAX costs more. Over a week or a month the difference adds up, so the Click is the budget pick. See the scooter price guide for orientation; prices change without notice.

The licence is the same for both

The engine-size difference does not change the law. As of May 2026, both a 125cc Click and a 155cc NMAX require a motorcycle licence, which for tourists means a licence from home covering motorcycles plus an International Driving Permit with the motorcycle category. Rules change — read the licence guide and verify with official sources.

A well-kept Click is a better rental than a tired, badly maintained NMAX. The condition of the specific bike — and the honesty of the shop — matters more than which model you pick.

What matters more than the model

It is easy to spend the decision worrying about Click versus NMAX. The bigger variable is the shop: its deposit terms, its contract, its passport policy and the state of the actual bike it hands you.

Whichever model you choose, protect yourself the same way:

Get the rate and deposit in writing. A fair deposit is a reasonable cash sum with returnable terms written on the contract — not a vague spoken promise.

Keep your passport. Leave a photocopy or a cash deposit. Never hand over your physical passport as security — that is the passport-hostage scam.

Photograph and film the vehicle. A full walk-around video before you set off, with every scratch and dent on record, defeats a fake-damage claim on return.

The deposit, fake-damage, passport-hostage and pre-existing-damage scams work the same way across Pattaya — and each one has a documented defence.

Common questions

Is the Honda Click or Yamaha NMAX better for renting in Pattaya?
Neither is simply better — they suit different rentals. The Click is lighter and cheaper, good for solo city trips; the NMAX is larger and steadier, better for two-up riding and longer journeys. This site reviews the rental experience, not the vehicles themselves.
Is the Yamaha NMAX harder to ride than a Honda Click?
The NMAX is larger and heavier than the Click, which can feel more of a handful at very low speed but more planted at road speed. Both are twist-and-go automatics with no gear changes. Choose according to your confidence and whether you will ride two-up.
Do the Honda Click and Yamaha NMAX need the same licence?
Yes. Both require a motorcycle licence regardless of the 125cc and 155cc engine difference. Tourists need a licence from home covering motorcycles plus an International Driving Permit. Rules change, so verify with official sources before you ride.
