Stop safely, preserve the observable facts and ask the supplier for written instructions before authorising a repair, tow or replacement.

Do this now
  1. Stop and get out of immediate danger. Do not keep riding an unsafe scooter. Use the rental-help page for emergency contacts if needed.
  2. Record the location and fault. Save the map pin, registration, time and what you can see or hear.
  3. Contact the supplier. Ask for written recovery, repair or replacement instructions; use the message template below.
  4. Keep the approval and receipts. Confirm the provider, work and cost before authorising it when circumstances allow.

The short answer

Report observable symptoms rather than guessing the cause. The breakdown, recovery and repair clauses determine which instructions to request; who pays depends on the agreement and evidence, not simply on when the fault appeared.

Message the rental supplier

Edit the brackets before sending through your own contact channel. Nothing is sent by this page.

My rental scooter [registration or fleet number] has stopped at [map pin / location] at [time]. The symptoms are [what I can see or hear]. I have [photos / video] of the condition.

Please confirm whether you will recover, repair or replace it, who I should contact, and what I should do with the scooter while waiting. If you authorise a workshop or tow, please name the provider, approved work, agreed charge and who pays. Please reply in writing.

Keep the reply with your condition photos. If a charge is later disputed, compare the itemised charge with the contract and use the dispute guide.

Flat tyres

At pickup, record the tread, sidewalls, valve area, rims and any existing marks. If a tyre loses pressure during the rental:

  • Do not continue riding a flat tyre. Record the wheel and tyre before further movement and request recovery instructions.
  • Move the scooter only if you can do so safely; otherwise ask the supplier how it will be recovered.
  • Ask that removed parts be retained when the cause or charge may be disputed.
  • Obtain written approval for the provider, scope and price before work begins when circumstances allow.

If a fixed tyre fee or other breakdown charge is requested, ask where it appears in the signed terms and request an itemised receipt. Compare the claim with the pickup media and any technician’s written finding rather than relying on a general assumption about puncture liability.

Dead battery and electrical faults

For a starting or electrical fault, record the dashboard state, sounds and control positions without dismantling the bike or repeatedly attempting to start it. Ask whether the supplier will inspect, recover or replace the unit; see the dead battery guide and replacement scooter guide. Document each instruction by message.

Brakes, chains, and tyres you should catch at pickup

Brake feel, tyre condition and chain state should be checked before acceptance without attempting a repair. Record and report concerns, then request inspection or another unit. See brake problems, worn tyres, and loose chain.

Confirm the supplier response

The contract may provide a roadside contact, recovery limit, authorised workshop or replacement process. If the supplier is unreachable, retain the call log and messages, keep the scooter secure if possible and use current official emergency or tourist-assistance channels when the circumstances require them. Verify official contact details at the time of need.

Avoid unapproved work. A third-party repair can change the evidence and may fall outside the contract. Obtain supplier approval unless an immediate safety need makes that impossible.

Return day after a breakdown

Bring receipts, the full message history, pickup media and breakdown media. Ask for each claimed part, service or recovery charge to be listed separately and tied to the contract. Do not alter original files; copies can be shared while the source evidence remains intact.

Pickup evidence

Record every wheel and tyre at pickup

A clear baseline helps distinguish existing condition from changes reported during the rental.

Common questions

Who pays for a flat tyre on a rental scooter in Pattaya?
Check the signed contract and evidence. Responsibility may depend on the stated puncture policy, cause, pre-existing condition and any authorised repair finding; no citywide rule is asserted here.
Should you fix a rental scooter yourself in Pattaya?
Ask the supplier to identify the approved person, work and cost. Do not dismantle the scooter or treat a general chat reply as approval for a repair you are not qualified to perform. Keep the written instruction.
What if the rental shop will not help when your scooter breaks down?
Document everything, stay safe, and keep receipts for towing or repairs the shop approved in writing. Use OCPB for a later consumer-contract or payment complaint, 191 for immediate danger, and 1155 only for tourist assistance or translation.
