Can you rent a scooter at the airport for Pattaya?

Cars yes, scooters basically no — here is how most visitors actually get there.

In short

You will not find scooter rental counters at Suvarnabhumi, Don Mueang or U-Tapao airports — Pattaya scooter shops operate from city locations, not airports. Car rental is available at all three airports — see the U-Tapao car rental guide and Bangkok airport car rental guide for pickup, one-way fees and card holds. The standard route is to take a bus, taxi or transfer to Pattaya and rent a scooter from a local shop after arrival. U-Tapao is the closest airport to Pattaya, about 45 minutes by road.

The short answer

Scooter rental at the airports serving Pattaya is essentially non-existent. International car-rental brands run counters at all three; scooter shops do not. Plan to rent your scooter once you are in Pattaya.

The three airports

Suvarnabhumi (BKK) is the main international airport and roughly 90 minutes from Pattaya by road. Don Mueang (DMK) handles many budget and domestic flights and is around two hours away. U-Tapao (UTP), near Sattahip, is the closest at about 45 minutes and is increasingly used by charter and Asian budget carriers.

If you can choose your flight, U-Tapao is the closest airport to Pattaya by some distance. It avoids the long Bangkok road run and works well with charter and regional carriers.

What to do instead

The normal route is the airport bus or taxi (or a pre-booked transfer) to Pattaya, then a scooter rental from a local shop after arrival. The directory pages cover the rental scene area by area — see scooter rental in Pattaya, the where to rent guide and the area index.

Transfer costs and timing

As orientation only, last verified May 2026: a taxi from U-Tapao to central Pattaya often runs roughly 800–1,200 baht; from Suvarnabhumi roughly 1,200–1,800 baht depending on traffic and exact drop-off. Shared airport buses and coach services cost far less but take longer. Allow for jet lag — riding a scooter immediately after a long flight is a poor idea; see the after-a-flight guide.

Scooter shops near U-Tapao

There is no airport scooter counter, but Sattahip and the U-Tapao road have local rental shops once you are in town. Many visitors still prefer to reach their Pattaya hotel first and rent nearby rather than at the airport fringe. If you land at U-Tapao, you are already inside Chonburi — territorial limits on a Pattaya rental usually allow local riding, but confirm on the contract.

If you want a car from the airport

Major international firms operate at all three airports. Booking in advance locks the rate and the vehicle class. The rental-firm vs local-agency guide walks through the trade-offs, and the no-credit-card guide covers what to do if you do not hold one. The full car rental directory is the starting point.
